M.C. Escher
M.C. Escher was a Dutch graphic artist who explored the artistic possibilities of repetitive patterns, tessellation and infinity. His works are characterized by optical illusions where there is no beginning or end in sight, and they have inspired many other artists to push the boundaries of their craft. His work has been described as an example of “odd reality” — he created impossible landscapes that don’t exist in real life, but that still feel as if they could be somewhere hidden in our world.

Frank Lloyd Wright
When you love the way someone thinks or the work they create, you can't help feeling inspired to dive deeper into their life. You wonder…
How did they become who they are? What things in life inspired them? How did they become a master of their craft?
Frank Lloyd Wright's autobiography is a book to hold close, and sift through whenever an extra dose of quiet inspiration feels much needed in a crowded mind. A peek into a creative individual’s world, and a gentle reminder that the projects we create, are most beautiful when crafted with meaning and purpose.

Where do we see patterns? And who uses them?
Have you noticed the patterns in the snow lately? The staggered footprints turning every which way, defined by our walk patterns.
Patterns are something artists often use in their creations, but everyone else uses them too – it's part of what makes us human. Patterns are not just something visible – they can be found throughout everything in existence. It can be found in the way the seasons change, the way waves break on the beach, the hours we sleep/wake, or how our hair grows. From the way we organize neighborhood streets - block by block, to how we use speech to communicate with other people.

You're walking down the street….
You notice your feet, softly pressing against the pavement as you walk down the street. You see a bright Fall-colored leaf slip past your foot and watch as it’s swept away by the wind from a passing car. You linger on your shadow cast by the sun as it sways to the rhythm of your every move. How often are you fully present with life’s subtleties? For many, long to-do lists or darting repetitious thoughts keep us from experiencing them — but making a point to observe the world that swirls around us is a universal offering, readily available if you’re ever longing to calm anxious thoughts.

I often notice the relationship of shadows to patterns…
Especially pretty patterns made by leaves against concrete sidewalks and buildings. These patterns have their own rhythm, which subtlety change throughout the day as well as during changing seasons. It's like the trees have their own kind of music, singing to us even if we did not hear them -- much like our inner patterns.
They are there, but how often to you pay attention to your inner-world? In today’s society we’re so caught up in work or outside responsibilities, that we forget to check in with ourselves.

Mark Rothko: “A painting is not a picture of an experience, but is the experience.”
Rothko is one of the most influential figures in the world of abstract expressionism. He is known for his use of vivid colors and dramatic, expressionist paintings. It is said that he used color to help convey his emotional state, as well as to portray an emotional reaction on the parts of viewers.

You've probably spent more time online and on social media than you'd like to admit, if you're anything like the majority of people.
Totally understandable. After all, there are things happening all over the world - from history-making achievements to viral videos of animals doing cute things... and people.
You know what else is out there though? Art.

You know that feeling when you see a child staring out the window at a tree, or while licking an ice cream cone?
Their eyes are wide with wonder as they look at the world around them.
That’s because kids have a sense of being present. They experience these moments wholeheartedly by taking in every detail without questioning it. This ability to fully take in their surroundings is something most grown adults struggle to do. They’re less likely to notice these things because they've become too consumed with life's complexities.

The Beauty, Balance, Symmetry and Continuity in Geometric Patterns
There are many ways by which pattern art is trending these days. Though it may not be quite as well known in today’s world that its origins stretch back into early human history. One particular type of pattern art that seem to epitomize this trend, is tessellations. A tessellation is a tiling of some kind of geometric shape with another, without gaps or overlaps (meaning everything fits together perfectly)... Think, mosaic tiling!
